Tourism officials in Michigan are touting a new poll which shows 73 percent supporting the state law that prohibits public schools in Michigan from opening before Labor Day.

Support is up 20-points compared to a 2005 poll, the same year the law was passed.
The results are similar to a poll taken in 2013.

The survey was conducted by East Lansing-based Mitchell Research and Communications.  It was released by the Michigan Lodging and Tourism Association.

Many in the tourism industry have said there are more family vacations taken in Michigan during the last weeks of August -- and more tax revenue for the state -- when schools remain closed until after Labor Day.

Schools are allowed to seek waivers to start before the holiday, under the law.
