Police Identify Man Killed In Rockford Car Crash

A Rockford area man was killed in a car crash early this morning.

Kent County Sheriff Department received a call at 4:45 from a passing motorist that found a car crashed into a tree on Jericho Avenue south of Rockford City in Plainfield Township.

The motorist reported that the driver appeared deceased. Rockford Ambulance, Plainfield Rescue, and Kent County Deputies were dispatched to the scene.  They found that the driver of the vehicle, a 1998 Chevy Lumina, was deceased behind the wheel. Hewas the lone occupant. The vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage.

The driver was identified as William Roy Hayes, 60 years old from the Rockford area.

There were no skid marks and no witnesses to the accident. The accident is still under investigation.
