Of the four Kent County sheriff's deputies charged with possessing marijuana, three of them hold medical marijuana cards.
Sergeant Tim Bernhardt (pictured at left), and officers Mike Frederick, Todd VanDoorne and Brian Tennant (pictured below, left to right) are involved. Officer Tennant's wife is a registered medical marijuana user, while Sgt. Bernhardt, Officer Frederick, and Officer VanDoorne are registered themselves.
WOOD TV's Leon Hendrix reports that Sgt. Bernhardt had been getting marijuana butter for more than two years and sharing it with the others.
He reported that Bernhardt was getting the marijuana butter from his caregiver’s husband and distributing it to the others. The most recent amount was 14 pounds.
Hendrix says others, beyond these four, also might be charged.
