Michigan travel officials expect more of us to travel by car this weekend than over the past several Memorial Day weekends.
MDOT Spokesman John Richard tells WOOD Radio Beginning at 3 p.m. Friday, 80 of 108 projects statewide will have lane restrictions removed.
"We know a lot of people will be on the roads and thankfully the weather is going to be good. We ask motorists to keep their eyes open."
Richard says while most construction zones will be idle, equipment and temporary traffic configurations, like minor shifts, may remain in place,
"You are going to see those barrels, that means slow down. Pay extra attention to what is going on. Even though construction is on pause for the weekend, some of the configurations may be a little different than drivers are used to.
AAA Michigan estimates 1.1 million motorists will be using Michigan roads and bridges during the annual kick-off to summer.
