Mysterious Piece Of Metal Found Stuck Inside Palisades Reactor Wall

A piece of metal has been found stuck inside the reactor wall at the Palisades nuclear power plant.

It's roughly a foot long, and plant spokeswoman Lindsay Rose says it's been "thoroughly analyzed" and they have determined it has no impact on the safety of the plant in Van Buren County's Covert Township.

The metal is from a coolant pump and was discovered during the current refueling outage for Palisades.

It likely traveled through the water pipes until becoming firmly lodged where it is, and physically separated from the nuclear fuel.

Rose says they have "determined there will be no impact on safe operations." She went on to say the piece is separated from the fuel and the material "does not rise to the level of being reportable to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission."
