Various media in Florida are reporting the death of Muskegon native and NFL quarterback Earl Morrall.

Morrall grew up in Muskegon and was a state champion with the Big Reds in 1951. He went on to Michigan State University where he won the 1956 Rose Bowl as quarterback and played third base with the Spartans in the College World Series.

Morrall was distinguishable with his crew cut and high top cleats as he played 20 seasons with six teams, including the Detroit Lions, Baltimore Colts and Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins claimed him off waivers for $100 in 1972 and he filled in for Bob Griese later that year to record the only undefeated season in the NFL.
