Locate & Kill Law Could Come To An End

A Michigan House committee in Lansing on Wednesday will take up legislation repealing a state law requiring county sheriffs to locate and kill unlicensed dogs.

Critics say the 94-year-old law is antiquated and currently not enforced.

The measure is supported by the Michigan Humane Society, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the group Protect Michigan Dogs.

The bill is before the House Local Government and Elections Committee and is sponsored by Republican Margaret O'Brien of Portage.
