No New Murders Leaves Time for Detectives to Work Older Cases

There has not been a new murder in Grand Rapids for half a year now, and the city police are using this lull to work on a few unsolved murders from last year.

Two already have been arrested in connection with a teenager's killing in August.

Juan Chavarria and Jani Gonzalez are charged with lying to police, although not with the murder itself.    WOOD TV reports that perjury is serious enough to put them behind bars for years, possibly.

Lt. Pat Merill says murder investigations are very labor intensive and the detectives appreciate having this pause to work on the older cases.
