A network of nearly two dozen Arab-American nonprofit groups is launching a campaign in several major metropolitan areas to challenge what it sees as persistent discrimination against U.S. Arabs and Muslims.

The National Network for Arab American Communities on Monday kicked off "Take on Hate'' in Washington, D.C., as part of its sixth annual Arab American Advocacy Week. The consortium says the campaign also will be rolled out in Detroit, Chicago, New York and San Francisco.

Organizers say the campaign incorporates public education and provides a platform for people "to speak up and inspire real policy change.''

The campaign introduction also marks the 10th anniversary of the Arab American network, a project of the Dearborn economic and social services agency ACCESS.
