Knowing that Grand Rapids voters will be asked for a long-term income tax hike in just three weeks for money that is supposed to be fixing the roads.

Some people ask if that is why the city is so slow getting the potholes filled this spring. City Manager Greg Sundstrom tells WOOD TV "That just cannot be further from the truth."

He says the ground is still too cold for the long-lasting asphalt patches, and the city is putting in temporary cold-patches, which are destroyed by car-tires in short order.

He expects the hot-asphalt will be ready in two weeks and says there are 50 stretches of roads that are "completely blown out" and will be re-covered completely sometime this summer.
