GM CEO to be in Congressional Hot Seat

General Motors CEO Mary Barra will be in the congressional hot seat this afternoon before a U.S. House committee investigating the recall of over two-million vehicles.

Congressman Fred Upton of St. Joseph, who chairs the Energy and Commerce subcommittee, says he wants answers. He says he wants to know why it took so long for the automaker to identify and report the ignition switch and airbag problems linked to 13 deaths.

Congress is expected to grill Barra about how much GM officials knew, and when they knew it. Reports indicate the problems were first discovered over a decade ago.

Barra released a written transcript yesterday Mon ahead of her testimony before Congress regarding GM’s recent recalls.

In the transcript she says that when she found out there was a problem, she acted immediately.

Barra also says at this point she still doesn’t know what took GM so long to issue the recall, but she promises to get to the bottom of it.
