GRPD Digital Network Unreliable

GRPD Digital Network Unreliable

Grand Rapids police officers have reportedly come to accept that an electronic network designed to keep them connected with dispatchers is unreliable. WOOD TV reports frequent network outages have occurred.

That's based on a leaked e-mail written by the police union president, who says the officers "just learned to deal with it.'"

But now Grand Rapids city manager Greg Sundstrom says he's aware of it and adds "losing connectivity is an officer safety issue."

Of course, they still have their radios, as police have had for decades, but that system does not have the GPS ability to locate where the officer is at every minute.

Reportedly, GRPD’s tech department thinks it can fix the network within the next few days.
