Posted Saturday, August 9th 2014 @ 8am  by WOOD Radio news team

Admission to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum is free to the public Saturday.

Forty years ago on August 9, 1974, Gerald R. Ford became the 38th President of the United States upon the resignation of Richard Nixon. To commemorate the historic event, the museum will not be charging visitors.

President Ford was appointed Vice President of the United States in 1973 after the former Vice President, Spiro Agnew, was forced to resign. Then in 1974, Nixon resigned during the Watergate scandal and Ford succeeded him as President. Ford is the only man who was neither elected Vice President or President but served in both capacities.

The museum is open Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
