UPDATE: Jamaican officials said their military have deployed to the last known position of an unresponsive plane that left U.S. airspace Friday afternoon.

Jamaican officials confirmed around 2:40 p.m. the private plane has crashed on the island with possibly three people on board.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command said Friday it scrambled jets to escort an unresponsive plane headed to Florida.

NORAD said it dispatched F-15 fighter jets to escort an "unresponsive small aircraft" over the Atlantic Ocean.

The plane was described as a Socata TBM-700 light business aircraft. NORAD said it tried to reach the occupants, but received no response.

The plan left Rochester, N.Y., with a flight plan to Naples, Fla. NORAD said its aircraft broke off after the aircraft entered Cuban airspace early Friday afternoon.
