The American Red Cross of West Michigan is after volunteer drivers to take patients to and from medical appointments.
The program has been around for over 60 years and is avaliable to residents of Muskegon, Kent, and Barry counties. ARC West Michigan spokeswoman Kelly Hudson told WOOD Radio many patients benefit from this service. "We're really able to help these people get to their appointments who otherwise may have no other way to get there."
If someone is interested in becoming a volunteer driver, the requirements are simple: having a good driving record and to enjoy working with people. Additionally, Hudson said there are no policies on age limits once an individual has their drivers license.
She says they also allow the opportunity for volunteer dispatchers, organizing schedules for drivers and booking appointments for patients. "The dispatchers are really the behind the scenes organizers who make the program run smoothly."
