KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — Jamarion Lawhorn, the 12-year-old boy who is accused of stabbing a 9-year-old boy to death, said he wanted to die and wanted to take someone with him, according to court documents.
When Lawhorn was in an ambulance on the way to St. Mary’s Hospital for suicidal behavior on Monday evening after the stabbing occurred, he told paramedics he had been planning the stabbing for over a year, according to court documents.
“He wanted to die and thought if he were arrested, he would have been put on the electric chair or lethal injection because he saw it on TV,” one paramedic said, the documents show.
At the hospital, Lawhorn told police he had taken several unknown pills, took a knife and went to the playground, police said. The boy said he didn’t know the victim, Michael “Connor” Verkerke, or any of the other kids and didn’t have any interaction with them “besides stabbing the kid in the back.”
According to the documents, Lawhorn said he didn’t know how many times he had stabbed Connor before he ran away to find police. Police said in the report Lawhorn wasn’t remorseful.
