Well, the Tigers got pretty good starting pitching yesterday as Drew Smyly gave up just 2 runs on seven hits while striking out six in seven innings, but Detroit still lost to Kansas City for the third straight game (2-1).  The Royals have now won 10 straight games.  This afternoon, Detroit and Kansas City will wrap up their four game series with a makeup game from April.  Anibal Sanchez takes the mound for Detroit, while Danny Duffy gets the start for Kansas City.  After the game, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus immediately regretted his choice of words.  But it was too late.  When asked about his mood when he returns home after a Tigers' loss during their recent slump, Ausmus jokingly quipped: "I beat my wife."  "I'm just kidding," he quickly clarified before offering up a serious response.

The Detroit Red Wings have placed veteran forward Jordin Tootoo on waivers, the first step to buyout his contract.  Detroit will use their second compliance buyout to get out of the final year of Tootoo's three-year, $5.7 million dollar deal that he signed in 2012.

Brady Hoke and U-M football received a verbal commitment yesterday from 2016 4-star pro-style QB - Messiah deWeaver of Dayton, Ohio, who is ranked in the Top 10 in the nation for pro-style quarterbacks for the Class of 2016.

The West Michigan Whitecaps are back at it for the 2nd. half of the season as they host the Ft. Wayne TinCaps tonight at Fifth-Third Ballpark....first pitch is 7pm.

In the 8th. annual Champions of Character High School All-Star Basketball games at Cornerstone University last night, the West All-Stars beat the East All-Stars (90-67) in the boys game as Kyle Steigenga of Holland Christian was the West MVP with 13 points, while Muskegon's Will Roberson was the East All-Stars MVP with a game-high 22 points.  In the girls game, Grand Haven's Taylor Cramer led the D&W All-Stars past the Family Fare All-Star(41-40) with 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way.
