Ian Kinsler homered and drove in four runs as the Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians, 7-5, on Thursday. Justin Verlander got the win, allowing three unearned runs thru five innings. The Tigers open a three-game weekend series against the LA Angels tonight at Comerica Park. Game time is 7:08; Drew Smyly will get the start.

According to a report out of Toledo, the Tigers have called up relief pitcher Justin Miller. The Tigers have made no official announcement. There’s speculation that the call-up has something to do with Evan Reed, who has been questioned by police regarding allegations of sexual assault. Again, the team has made no official announcement.

The Detroit Red Wings begin their 23rd-straight playoff season tonight in Boston against the Bruins; faceoff is 7:30pm.

The Grand Rapids Griffins play their final home game of the regular season tonight at Van Andel Arena against the Lake Erie Monsters. Broadcast time is 6:40 on NewsRadio WOOD 1300 and 106.9fm. The Griffins will wrap up the regular season at Lake Erie on Saturday night. The Griffins second run at the Calder Cup begins next week; games and time to be announced.

As the Detroit Pistons fire up their search for a new team president, two names have emerged as supposed candidates, and both have ties to the Pistons. One is Grant Hill, who played with the team from 1994 through 2000; the other is Scott Perry, a former Pistons front office member, now an exec with the Orlando Magic.

And the University of Michigan announced on Thursday that the new voice of Michigan Football will be a current voice of Michigan Football. Long-time play-by-play sideman Jim Brandstatter will become the lead play-by-play announcer and will be joined by Michigan grad Dan Dierdorf, who retired from his TV analyst job at CBS following the 2013 season.
