Teams from the Big Ten and the ACC will meet at Ford Field in December for the inaugural Quick Lane Bowl. Yesterday, the Lions and Ford Motor Company announced a multi-year agreement for the game, which will take the place of the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl. The Quick Lane Bowl is scheduled to kick off December 26th at 4:30pm.
The Detroit Tigers won the first of a three game series with the New York Yankees (5-2) last night at Comerica Park. Rick Porcello earned his 15th win of the season, surrendering two runs on nine hits while striking out two in eight innings. Yankees shortstop and Kalamazoo native Derek Jeter, who is playing in his final regular-season series in Detroit, will be honored in a pregame ceremony before tonight's game. The Tigers will send David Price to the mound this evening against the Yankees Shane Greene....first pitch is 7:08pm.
In other Tigers' news, starter Anibal Sanchez will miss another start after suffering a setback as he tries to make his way back to the rotation. Sanchez, who has been on the disabled list after straining his right pectoral muscle earlier this month, felt pain during a throwing session yesterday. Also, Detroit may be looking to make another move to strengthen their bullpen. MLB Network is reporting that the Tigers are the team that put in a claim for Houston Astros reliever Chad Qualls on Monday. The Astros now have today to work out a trade, pull Qualls off waivers or let him go to the Tigers.
The West Michigan Whitecaps got swept last night by South Bend falling (5-3) in the series finale. Tonight the Caps visit Ft. Wayne to open up a series...first pitch is set for 7:05pm.
