The Detroit Tigers avoided a four-game sweep with a (2-1) win over the Kansas City Royals yesterday at Comerica Park.  Starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez surrendered one run on five hits over seven innings of work and closer Joe Nathan struck out the side in the ninth to notch his 14th. save of the season.  Also, J.D. Martinez hit a solo home run and Miguel Cabrera had an RBI.  Rick Porcello will go to the mound for the Tigers tonight, while the Indians send Corey Kluber to the hill.  First pitch is set for 7:05pm. 

The Whitecaps made it 10 straight home wins last night to tie a record for the franchise.  The Caps are off today for the Opening Ceremonies of the 2014 Meijer State Games, which will be held at Fifth-Third Ballpark. 

Goalie Jonas Gustavsson will return to the Red Wings for a third season.  The 29-year-old and the team reportedly have agreed to a one year deal worth about $1.5 million dollars.  Gustavsson has served as a backup to Jimmy Howard, and went (16-5-4) last season with a .907 save percentage. 

The Pistons have a new president and coach, but their chances to win the NBA title next season will be worse, according to one handicapper.  According to RJ Bell of pregame.com, the Pistons have 110-to-1 shot to win the NBA Title next season.

Mark Dantonio and MSU football got a verbal commitment yesterday for the Class of 2015 from Grayson Miller, a 6'3" 195lb. athlete from Kentucky.  Grayson's father, John Miller, was an All-Big Ten safety at Michigan State.
