The Houston Texans selected South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney with the 1st. overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft last night in New York City.  The Lions stayed put at #10 and selected North Carolina TE - Eric Ebron.  Ebron holds North Carolina school records for receptions and receiving yards and had 24 catches of 20+ yards last year.  Also, Michigan offensive tackle Taylor Lewan went to the Tennessee Titans with the #11 pick and Michigan State cornerback Darqueze Dennard was taken by the Cincinnati Bengals at #24.  Today, the Lions have the 13th. pick in the 2nd. Round and the 12th. selection in the 3rd. Round. 

The Tigers eight game winning streak came to a halt as they lost to Houston yesterday afternoon (6-2).  Drew Smyly was tagged with the loss, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out two and walking three in five and one third innings.  Detroit begins a three game weekend series with Minnesota tonight.  Justin Verlander gets the start tonight against Minnesota, who counters with Phil Hughes.  First pitch at Comerica Park is 7:08pm. 

The Grand Rapids Griffins lost to the Texas Stars (5-2) last night in Game #1 of their second round Calder Cup playoff series.  Cory Emmerton and Tomas Jurco scored for the Griffins.  Game #2 of the best-of-seven series will be played in Texas tomorrow night with pregame coverage beginning at 7:40pm over on Newsradio WOOD 1300 & 106.9 FM. 

In Midwest League action, the West Michigan Whitecaps have now won 5 straight games after defeating the Lansing Lugnuts last night (7-6).  The Caps and Lugnuts will square off again tonight at Fifth-Third Ballpark....6:35pm - First pitch.
