Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores has responded to NBA commissioner Adam Silver's action against Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling.  Yesterday, Silver announced Sterling would be banned for life from the NBA and fined $2.5 million dollars for making racist comments.  Silver also urged the NBA's Board of Governors to force Sterling to sell the team.  In a statement, Gores said he was proud of Silver for providing the leadership and strenght necessary in this situation and that the commissioner has his full support.  By the way, yesterday in speaking to a group of reporters at the MGM Grand as he prepares for his fight this Saturday night, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. said he is interested in putting a group together to buy the Los Angeles Clippers franchise.

The Detroit Tigers rallied to beat the White Sox (4-3) last night in Chicago.  Starter Justin Verlander didn't figure in the decision, giving up three runs on six hits while striking out four in seven innings.  Joba Chamberlin got the win and Joe Nathan notched his fifth save of the season.  Max Scherzer takes the mound for the Tigers in this afternoon's series finale.  First pitch is set for 2:10pm.

The Red Wings cleaned out their lockers yesterday and posed for team pictures after they were eliminated from the playoffs last Saturday by the Boston Bruins.  Coach Mike Babcock says with so many injuries to key players, the summer is critical for healing and conditioning.  The Wings will have some decisions to make concerning next year's roster as Daniel Alfredsson, Todd Bertuzzi, Daniel Cleary, Jonas Gustavsson, David Legwand, Kyle Quincey and Mikael Samuelsson will become unrestricted free agents on July 1st.

Closer to home, the Grand Rapids Griffins are getting set to host the Abbotsford Heat tonight at Van Andel Arena in Game #3 of their best-of-five series in the Calder Cup Playoffs.  Forward Mitch Callahan will be back in the lineup tonight for Grand Rapids after being out since April 2nd due to taking a puck to his mouth.  Pregame coverage begins at 6:40pm this evening with a 7pm start, and you you can listen to it live over on Newsradio WOOD 1300 & 106.9 FM.

Finally, the West Michigan Whitecaps shutout Lake County (4-0) last night on the road.  Those two will meet again tonight in Ohio - First pitch is set for 6:30pm.
