The Detroit Red Wings inched closer to the post season with a (4-2) win over the Sabres in Buffalo last night. Brendan Smith, Darren Helm, David Legwand and Pavel Datsyuk all lit the lamp for Detroit as Jimmy Howard made 25 saves in the win. The Red Wings now need just one point in their remaining three games to secure a place in the playoffs for the 23rd. straight season. Detroit will visit Pittsburgh tonight to skate against the Penguins - Faceoff time is 8pm.
On the diamond, Carl Crawford doubled to drive in Chone Figgins from first base with one out in the 10th. inning late last night as the LA Dodgers defeated the Tigers (3-2). The two teams will play again tonight with first pitch scheduled for 10:10pm, and Anibal Sanchez (0-0) will get the start for Detroit.
Rodney Stuckey led Detroit with 29 points, Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond each posted a double-double as the Pistons beat the Hawks in Atlanta last night (102-95). The Pistons will be in Cleveland tonight to take on the Cavaliers - game time is 7pm. Also, Pistons President Joe Dumars may be stepping down from his position with the team soon. According to reports, Dumars has told several NBA sources that he plans to resign, possibly as soon as this week. Dumars took over as president of basketball operations for Detroit in 2000 and the team won an NBA title in 2004 and returned to the Finals the next year.
Finally, the West Michigan Whitecaps won their home opener last night (3-2) over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at the newly rebuilt 5\3rd. Ballpark. Over 7,000 fans were in attendance last night, and the same two teams will do battle tonight with first pitch set for 6:35pm.
