The Detroit Red Wings acquired forward David Legwand in a trade with the Nashville Predators yesterday afternoon just before the NHL's trading deadline at 3pm.  Legwand will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.  In return, the Red Wings gave up Patrick Eaves, Grand Rapids center Calle Jarnkrok, and a 2014 third-round pick that will become a second-round pick if the Red Wings make the playoffs.  Legwand played in 62 games with Nashville with 10 goals and 30 assists for 40 points.  Detroit will host Colorado at the Joe tonight, and the organization will honor former captain Nicklas Lidstrom.

Reigning American League Cy Young winner Max Scherzer threw 3 scoreless innings in the Tigers' (3-0) victory over the Houston Astros yesterday in Grapefruit League action.  This afternoon, Justin Verlander is scheduled to start in a split squad game against the Phillies in Lakeland.  It will be Verlander's first spring appearance since undergoing core muscle surgery during the offseason.  First pitch is 1:05pm.

Joakim Noah posted his sixth career triple-double last night at the Palace with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists as the Chicago Bulls beat the Pistons - (105-94).  Greg Monroe led Detroit with 27 points and 7 rebounds.

#22 Michigan St. will look to snap their two-game losing streak tonight when they host the Iowa Hawkeyes.  Tip-off at the Breslin Center is 9pm, and it is Senior Night at MSU.

Finally, the Grand Rapids Griffins made it a "Winning Wednesday" last night doubling up the Chicago Wolves (4-2) at Van Andel Arena.  Grand Rapids will host the Iowa Wild tomorrow night and Saturday night with Faceoff times of 7pm.
