Team USA is tied with host country Russia atop the Winter Olympics medal count standings.  Both countries own 19 medals now including five gold.  The Netherlands is second with 17 medals while Norway and Canada are next with 15 medals each.  It was finally time for Michigan's Meryl Davis and Charlie White at the Olympics.  The two-time world champions won ice dancing gold yesterday.  The 27-year old Davis, of West Bloomfield and 26-year old White, of Bloomfield Hills, are both students at the University of Michigan.  Olympic hockey continues today as four men's qualifiers take place in Sochi.  Team USA will have its eye on the contest between the Czech Republic and Slovakia.  The winner of that contest heads to the quarterfinals to face the U.S. tomorrow afternoon, with puck drop slated for Noon.

The Pistons are back on the court tonight to start the second half of the NBA season.  Detroit hosts the Charlotte Bobcats at the Palace.  Tip-off is 7:30pm.  Detroit is (22-30), good for ninth in the Eastern Conference...a half-game behind the Bobcats for the final playoff spot.

U-M and MSU dropped this week in the latest "USA Today" top-25 poll.  The Wolverines dropped from 18th to 20th after their loss Sunday to Wisconsin at home.  MSU fell from 10th to 14th after their loss to Nebraska over the weekend at the Breslin Center.  Michigan has the mid-week off, but the Spartans will visit Purdue on Thursday.

The Detroit Tigers are set to hold their first full-team workout today in Lakeland.  Their first spring training game is a week from today against Florida Southern College.

And finally, the Wendy's High School Basketball Game of the Week is this Saturday night at Cornerstone University's Mol Arena as the Mustangs of NorthPointe Christian host the Yellowjackets of Detroit Country Day....check out Bret Bakita's Top 10 Rankings this week for the area in boys high school basketball at The Bakita Blog@woodradio.com!
